The Serenity Prayer

“God, grant me the serenity,
To accept the things that I cannot change,

Courage to change the things I can,

And wisdom to know the difference.”

OK’s not Okay

Have you read today’s papers? I’m greatly tickled by a Miss Lim Poh Suan’s complaint in the Forum section of the ST:

“Singapore Airlines should ensure that their crew, including their captains, speak proper English. On a recent flight, when I asked if there were any empty seats available, an SIA stewardess replied ‘OK’. I was puzzled. It took the fourth crew member, a steward, to finally understand my question and reply that they had to wait until the gates were closed. On my return trip, the captain welcomed us to ‘SQ fRight…’. As a Singaporean on board an SIA flight, I felt embarrassed about the improper pronounciation and inability of the crew to communicate the basics.”

Oh my. I cringed when I read this. Is SIA now hiring foreign workers whose English language abilities are less than desirable? How humiliating is it to have “icons” who can’t comprehend basic English? It makes me wonder, isn’t it bad enough that you already have the Chao Ah Lians and Miang Minahs as SQ girls? Why make it worse and hire foreign workers who can’t communicate in basic English? Tsk tsk.

God forbid if I get stuck with any of them during an emergency on board a flight.

Day 6

Have you ever experienced betrayal so vile that you question your self-worth?

What is the big deal to warrant such a treatment? Just because I said I was uncomfortable and that I wouldn’t give any blessings?

Have you ever felt that your existence is so insignificant so much so you wonder why are you so faithful to such an institution in the first place?

Have you been in a situation where you long and crave for comfort from your own foe?

Have you fought a losing battle?

I question my self-worth.

I feel so strifled. I cannot show displeasure without being punished.

I question my faith in the institution.

I cry every night because of the pain.

I am fighting a losing battle. Constantly.

Am I wrong to doubt?

What and how would you have done better?

Yes, I am in tremendous revolting pain. As a part of me always dies everytime this happens.

Saint James

Some of us girls went to St. James to celebrate Aixa’s birthday 3 weeks ago…

We were first at the Boiler Room in ushering Aixa’s 29th..

She went on stage to be “sabo-ed”…

Us lot were in black+pink, as requested by the birthday girl..

And then all of us got silly. Really silly. And no, neither of us were drunk.

And here is a series of B+W photos taken that night:

Us Gone Wrong..

And this was us, without our props!

Then after that nice proper photo was taken, it was back to wearing the misai again!

And upon heading out to go home, we saw a classic scene of idiots who can’t hold their drink. This was most symbolic.

So much about drinking responsibly. A few seconds after this photo was taken, this idiot started to puke and almost fell flat on his face on his own puke. Ekks!

Clams Delight

Oh happy days! It has been raining and I love rainy days! The weather has been horrid lately and the rain is heaven-sent.

I know I haven’t been on the ball in updating this blog. I keep digressing! In fact I have 2 pending entries on draft-mode at the moment and I promise to post them up by the end of the week!

Anyways,  I went to NTUC @ AMK Hub earlier to shop for groceries and I was specifically looking for Manhattan Clam Chowder – which consist of clear broth set in tomato for flavour. But all I could find are the New Engand ones – and they are creamy.. Yucks! Anyway it was NTUC, so I should not be expecting much.

While browing through the fish section, I came across clams for 24cents per 100g! Cheap! Hence, I bought around 3 kilos which came about less than $8. Since I couldn’t find my preferred chowder, I decided to cook my own soup.

This is a recipe which my late grandmother taught me. It’s very simple, really!

You first wash the clams..

Then add a teeny-weeny bit of oil and heat up the wok or saucepan…

As the wok is heating up, quickly slice some ginger..

And a small onion.. (You may want to add chopped garlic, but unfortunately I don’t have any in my kitchen so I  have to make do without)

And set aside some salt..

Saute the ginger and onion but make sure that they don’t burn..

After about 2-3mins, add water enough to engulf and submerge the clams…

Then add a tiny pinch of salt and the pour in the washed clams on medium fire …

The clams will open their shell after a while..

And once it starts to boil, give it a few more mins before putting out the flame..

Look at how juicy they look! And they are all MINE!

And there you have it, clear home-made clam soup all for under $8!

I guess $8 worth of clams can serve up to 4 people but I bet I am able to finish them all by myself in a matter of hours!

It is best to garnish this dish with spring onions. But since I meant to eat it myself, I skipped on the garnishing. This truly beats having to pay $10 for spicy Sambal Lala at the hawker centres.

It’s best to enjoy it while pipping hot though! I’m having mine while watching Glee on Star World! *Slurp*

Oh and guess what else I found at NTUC…

Cadbury Mini-Eggs!!

Which means Easter is just round the corner! Thanks to Aznie who posted these on her faceball mobile uploads, I actually went on a hunt for them before heading to the check-out counter. And I bought 3 packets!!

I am a happy camper!

Hungryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

I haven’t eaten the whole day yet and looking through food photos in my misc folder makes me all the more hungry.

Photo was taken during the CNY weekend with the husband at Dempsey.

One of my favourite desserts at Ben+Jerry’s: Waffle with Cherry Garcia, Mango Sorbet & Cookie Dough (sans whipped cream. I hate cream)

*SLURP*

Five Tiers of Happiness

My 2nd birthday gift! And it also came in robbin-blue boxes!

Aptly named “Five Tiers of Happiness“, it was thoughfully bought and lovingly presented by my dear gf, Ann Nurullita Aludra Boyd..

[First Tier]

I gave up using any keyrings on my car key cos I kept breaking them. Ann noticed and got me this diamante accented lipstick keyring. How pretty!

[Second Tier]

A diamante bow brooch which is just what I needed to jazz up any plain outfits!

[Third Tier]

A sexy pair of lacy undies!

[Fourth Tier]

A gorgeous Jackie O inspired navy blue boat neck dress. I love boat neck dresses! And I love the fact that this dress isn’t all black!

[Fifth Tier]

A matching pair of navy blue URS Inc pumps with dainty flower detail! Perfect with the dress!

Ta-daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

And this is how I look like!

I love the ensemble!

And even more so when I know that they have been thoughfully put together by someone dear.

Thank you, Nyah!!

xoxo

T&C Keys..

On Friday, the 12th of Feb, I met Sara and a secret “someone” (I wish I can but I cannot disclose the identity of this “someone”) at Joo Chiat for lunch at Hajjah Maimunah..

She had a little something in her bag..

Fyi, the secret “someone” whom I mentioned earlier was the official photographer. She was snapping photos during lunch..

Anyways, I can’t remember what I was talking about here. ..

In Sara’s bag… was my birthday present from her, Rozz, Ying, Aznie & Anabel!

It was a pleasant surprise!

They got me a T&C Keys Necklace!

Thank you, ladies!!

xoxo
